In case you wonder why....

It has been a busy time. I’ve been labeling school supplies, getting a new URL to add to my collection that will be the page I show to Art Directors for illustration samples, working on class stuff for the CreativFestival in October and sketching or drawing like crazy.

I’ve also applied for a Local Permit so that I can supply teach here in Monition. I can fill in for teachers in either French or English and hopefully this will help me contribute to our family’s bottom line again.

I have been getting e-mails from so many stitchers and hearing feedback from shops who have upset customers. I am sorry that many of you feel hurt that I won’t be designing as much. Lots of you have been VERY supportive as well as regretful.

I just need to feel passionate about what I am creating instead of sad and angry! Lately, so many of the infringers have been moving to chinese and russian sites because Picassa and Multiply are starting to know some of us by name .

This is the type of infringer that made me decide to scale back on designing and move on to other things. For the first time, I am actually going to share the link to a site of illegal patterns, just to show you why I made my decision.

Stealing Santa's Dragon

This person not only chose to steal my design and scan it in illegally, they even took the image from my website to promote it! All of the stitchers who wrote such positive comments about the design are going to stitch my largest and most complicated design for free. They will treasure it, pass it on and probably never think twice about the fact that they helped the designer to give up on something that she loved passionately, because it was just too easy to steal what she spent 14 months creating.

When I have to spend two days jumping through hoops to try to get my stuff removed from this site, knowing that the infringer still has the illegal files to share, I know that I made the right decision to move on...

I just wish it hadn’t hurt so many honest stitchers and loyal shop owners in the process.

I'm so sorry! It's terrible what people will do to get something for free.

Yes, it is upsetting and sad that you've decided to cut back on your designing efforts. But I'm sure it was a decision that you didn't come to lightly. I hope you're much happier in what you're now choosing to do for yourself.

I personally will be checking your website and blog to see how you're doing, to offer my support, and to find out about any future efforts you decide to offer us stitchers.

I wish you the best of luck, success, and happiness.

Jen, I am just so sorry this happened to you. I am happy you found out and can hold that person accountable. I am one of the many who will miss you, but glad you will not be totally gone. I own all of your designs (I bought them, of course) and plan to stitch each and every one. Your style is amazing. But if you feel sad, then it is understandable. {{{HUGS}}}

Sorry that this has happened again. I bought this design as soon as you released it and will be stitching it at some time. I will still be reading your blog and checking your website as I love hearing about what you are doing. Good luck in whatever you do next.

I'm so sorry that people just can't seem to respect copyrights. It's even more galling to see your copyright on the stolen picture! I don't blame you for a second for deciding to move on to other venues. I will miss seeing more of Dragon Dreams needlework as often as I have in the past, but it really does seem foolish to continue on when things like this continue to happen.

I supply teach in my youngest's school too - are you copying me again???? :-)

I am so sorry that idiots like that are making so free with your hard work. I'm planning on attending the Creativ Festival this year, if only to take your classes. I appreciate all your hard work and gladly pay for it.

I am so sorry Jen. I couldn't get this at my local shop- so I won't be able to stitch it. But I'll be damned if I use a site like this. I wish we could shut all of them down.
I'll certainly be watching your site/blog/ect to see what you're up to.
(hugs) and many, many thanks for all you have done and continue to do for us.

Jen,

your decision is understandable (I am relatively new designer, but I already know how much it hurts even the infringements aren't such an issue for me - YET), if someone steals your income there comes the point where you just can't tolerate it anymore.

I just hope that your published designs will stay in print as I have just started to collect all your wonderful, and very reasonably priced, designs. Most of them are still on my wish/ shopping list as I only own precious few, but when ever I can afford I will continue collecting them. :)

Hi Jennifer,
I just want to say: I ♥ your designs!
I own a few (plan to buy more), I buy them legal, even if it is hard to get them here on the other site of the globe!
I (like lots of people in my country) don't own a creditcard, PayPal, etc. but I order them through a local ONS, wich orders them overseas for me.

(((hugs))) and a big thank you for your lovely designs and your generous(sp.?) freebies.
Keep up your happy spirits, don't let *those bad individuals* win the battle!
:o)
